Profile Kwanza Collection started operation in May 2001,The History of Kwanza Collection goes back in 1994 when British Government through Overseas Development Assistance (ODA) Funded AMKA Registered Trustees for 4 years (1994 – 1998) to work with Small Producers in Tanzania and help them to access export markets for their products.
AMKA Trust worked with producers on Capacity Building, Product Development, Buyers Linkages etc, However in 1998 during project end review, the followings were noted Majority of producers in Tanzania received a lot of assistance from AMKA, unfortunately they lacked the Language skills to transact business, poor infrastructure, remoteness, Quality control, buyers trust etc; and Low production capacity and seasonality of products.
Recommendations were made as per the review that a private and neutral company be established to carry out the buying and selling of products from the small producers therefore Kwanza Collection Company was formed.
The mission of Kwanza Collection is to contribute positively towards poverty alleviation in Tanzania by increasing the volume and value of local sales/exports from target producers in the handcrafts and foods sectors by promoting the ethical practice so as to enable producers meet their basic needs – shelter, education and health care. The work of Kwanza Collection has resulted in higher incomes to producers in Tanzania as well as employment creation
Goals and objectives of the organizations to promote through sales fairer local, regional, international trade and linking the target producers with buyers, and empowering them to participate in the trade effectively.
Kwanza aims to assist small producers in the country to access export market, increase their income, improve their living standards and be able to treat their families and send their children to school. |
