Mango True Mirage was established in 1998 to represent the skilled craftsmen and women from economically marginalised groups in Kenya. The idea behind Mango was to create a Fair system that provided economic empowerment and support to the crafts people and enabled them to form part of the board and be involved in the decision making of the organization.

Mango’s Mission is to work with marginalized groups to assist them utilize their skills in the production of crafts that can they then market for income generation that goes a long way in poverty alleviation. By doing this, they work towards improving the communities socio- economic lives. To this end, the name Mango True Mirage was chosen in a bid to prove that it is possible to achieve what seems unachievable and that its operations would be true to the basis of its foundation.

Based in Machakos District, Mango produces and supplies Kenyan handicrafts that are both functional and decorative and made from various locally available raw materials including: wood, soapstone, sisal, banana fibres, leather and beads. Mango has been successful in exporting their beautiful products to several European countries. They also have a small shop in a small town in Kenya that services the needs of the local market.

Through partnerships with several organizations including COFTA, Shared Interest and Fair Trade Original among others, Mango has provided vital training to staff and producers in an endeavour to increase their skills base. They further have a strong commitment to environmental conservation, and utilize environmentally friendly inputs (such as dyes) in their production.

The future looks bright for Mango, and they are committed to quality and efficient production, along the guidelines of Fair Trade. Sustainable market and quality production of goods and services is their hallmark.
